Faced with information overload, we have no alternative but pattern recognition. -Marshall McLuhan. 18 May 2007
Our new Master of Exercise Science students are starting next week so we brought them in for a few introductions. As part of the induction Leigh and I thought we might run a short session on getting more out of the internet in terms of learning and research.
Whilst the internet appears all powerful and many times overwhelming, we went through with students some tips and tricks on how to get the most out of it. Importantly, there are ways that you can use the internet to make it work for you, making it easy for the information to come to you. These are the types of principles we tried to get across.
We created a record of what we discussed on using the internet for learning and research. Feel free to contribute.

The blog that I have created for this course is the first blog I have ever created or for that matter seen. I have found it difficult at times, yesterday I could not figure out how to post a link into a comment, I have still not worked this out.
When I visited your blog I was amazed by what you had created, I had no idea that a blog could be so sophisticated. As well as the visual attractiveness of the blog, I was impressed by the choices of content offered. This small blog links to an enormous number of resources, videos, discussion sites, wikis etc. I found the blog easy to navigate.
Your blog has shown me what is posssible with blogging, it is a fabulous use of e-learning technologies and your students must love using it. This would be a very effective method of engaging the computer literate generation of current students.

Thanks Raelene, I’m glad you got something out of it. I probably don’t use it as much as I could because when I get busy this is one of the first thing that suffers.
I’ll have my educational technology post up hopefully later today. In terms if inserting a link, if in doubt (not sure about the HTML code or the blogs conventions) often useful to just write the link – e.g http://benrattray.wordpress.com
